It’s fearless

July 31, 2009

Dear World,
I haven’t written in one week, ONE WEEK! For me, though I have like two followers, it’s still a lot for me. This blog is for my mine to clear all of the clutter out, and this week definitely needs some clearing. I suppose the reason it has been so long is because this past week (besides today) has actually been summer weather and I’ve been busy jet skiing, rope swinging and swimming.

I know this is my blog and no one I know personally reads this, but I am still going to be very vague about this next subject. So, tomorrow I am going to someone’s house. This someone lives in Florida but lives up here for the summer. Last year I though I really liked this someone and then I realized that I am hopeless helpless mess when it comes to relationships and I need to be single for a long time before I could ever in possibly consider showing my heart to someone else. He did not share this. He liked me, and he was gorgeous and he was perfect and any girl would kill to be with him. But my heart says no, and I always follow it, sort of kind of…

Anyways, I hope it isn’t awkward (there is going to be a whole group of us) and I am hoping we’ll enjoy the day being friends and such. I also heard he has a girl friend in college, so I don’t think I broke his heart too much!

Today I am going to a friend’s for a pool party. It doesn’t matter it is raining or gloomy out! We’re from the north, we kick it old school!

Sincerely,
Shea

Dear World,
Today and tomorrow is my church’s annual summer fair called The Funshine Fair. Crafty, eh, eh? I face painted on antsy kids for five hours today, and going back for about four more tomorrow, so wish me luck…

Though I am more of a performing artist, I must say, when it comes to painting butterflies and fowers and rainbows and… baseballs, I am KILLER. If this whole college neuroscience/pre-med thing doesn’t work out, I could always invest in a face painting career. Just saying.

Today was perfect weather, but that I mean it has been sunny. It’s sad that I have to be grateful for sun in the summer, but this summer’s weather has been pretty sad…

Oh, you know what I am addicted to? Sugar Free shortbread snackwell’s. They are DELISH, and by DELISH I mean, so yummy but you don’t know why.

Ok, I’m done here.

Sincerely,
Shea

Dear World,
So I just got back from a weekend trip of college visits with my dad. We visited Wesleyan in Connecticut and Amherst in Massachusetts. Seriously, I fell in love with. I fell in love with college life as a whole actually. I visited two colleges before, but they were just for school functions and not ones that I was passionate about, but these two are legit beautiful. I’m visiting Brown soon and Stonehill as well.

Now that I think about, I probably shouldn’t be posting this on the internet, but, c’est la vie…

I’m super excited for senior year, and I’m going to live up my last high school year, but college is SO calling my name.

Sincerely,
Shea

Dear World,
I have discovered my new obsession- the band Owl City. Seriously, how could i have never discovered them before now?! I was innocently on itunes and wandered over to the free single of the week and low and behold it was Owl City’s single Fireflies. It’s so cheery and summery and I love it!

I think obsessions can (sometimes) be healthy…

Sincerely,
Shea

Dear World,
Tonight I’m going to the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. This would be much more exciting if I was an avid fan and actually read the books… but alas, I will have fun. As awful as this sounds I quite enjoy the movies even though I don’t read the books, and I know a lot of people will not like me for this, but I’ve at least given the books a try and fantasy has never really been my cup of tea.

I’ll tell you how it goes.

Sincerely,
Shea

P.S. Regina Spektor always makes things right!

Dear World,
So as I was dancing obscenely in my living room to the sound track of the Saddle Club with my best friend, I had this intense moment of slow motion where I was reminded of how innocent and perfect and fun summer is. Seriously, a bit of sun shine and blue skies can work wonders on just about anything, and sharing those beautiful moments with your best friend since you were both fetuses is perfect bliss.

Another example is last night. We (my best friend sara, her sister amy and I) all slept in their infamous camper that they’ve had forever. We watched Quarantine (which was hella good and for me to say that it must be good because it takes a lot to scare me) and The Boy In the Striped Pajamas (which got me good because anything about the Holocaust sends me into an emotional melt down). Doing things like that can really only be done in the summer time, and it makes me sometimes loathe that we have 4 seasons where I live. Now don’t get me wrong, the fall time is astounding and spring time delivers hope, but winter time is a brutal 4 and a half months (or more) and I could go a few years without it!

Off to summer soccer…

See? Bliss I tell you, bliss!

Sincerely,
Shea

Never say never

July 10, 2009

Dear World,

It’s Fridaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Clearly this makes me happy. I never thought in the summer I would care what day of the week it is but I am happy for several reasons:

1) tomorrow is my town’s annual fireworks/old home days festival

2) I only had to work (babysit nevertheless still work) for a few hours AND got my second paycheck. CA-CHING, it’s adding up!

3) Tomorrow night after the fireworks my bests friends are sleeping over and we’re (belatedly) celebrating my 17th birthday

‘Tis beautiful out so I think I’ll go finish reading the color purple and soak some rays up (with sunscreen of course)!

Sincerely,
Shea

Dear World,
As awfully materialistic and so unlike me as this sounds, I am actually really enjoying making money. I mean, I babysit four kids, so granted it isn’t always a picnic, but they are really great and I couldn’t think of a better way to pass the hours than being with kids who know how to have fun. So far, it’s been perfect, I mean I get a good hourly wage, they pay for my gas to get there a back, and I’ve only had to babysit on rainy days thus far. This mean I am getting paid to watch movies, play board games, and cook breakfast and lunch! This isn’t really a bad deal if I do say so myself! I think I could get used to this (well, at least for the summer)! It’s three days a week which is perfect, and now I can actually buy some things (instead of feeling guilty when my parents do) and save for a rainy day (more specific traveling abroad in college).

Life is good. Life is really good.

Sincerely,
Shea

Dear World,
Happy fourth (At least in America)! Tonight I’m going into the city to see some fire works with Maggie. I haven’t seen her since I left for Bermuda, so this will be nice!

I got my iPod touch working, and I’m in love! I know it’s been out for a while and EVERYONE has one, but oh well. It’s gorgeous and does so much! I think I’ll name it…

Sincerely,
Shea

P.S. I’m not sure if I feel 17 or not…

Dear World,
I’m officially seventeen! It’s a bit weird, like, now I feel as though time is going by way too fast! I don’t like it. But I like seventeen, it’s nice to say!  *my birthday is July 2, but it says July 3 on this post

So I spent the day in Boston with my parents (it has become a tradition since my 16th birthday) and we went to the museum of science. Seriously, I know I’m a huge geek if for my birthday, all I want to do is go and learn about science all day (I’m obsessed)! It was a lot of fun and we took the train again which is always an adventure. Seriously train stations are THE hot spot to people watch.

Anyway, I’ve compiled a list that I’ve done/seen/experienced as a sixteen year old:

1) got a car
2) got my license
3) saw my hero get elected president
4) witnessed history because of said election
5) took the SATs
6) took the ACTs
7) began finalizing what colleges I’m looking at
8 ) ruled out dating ever in high school
9) took back number 8 and now only have eyes for one guy whom I have never actually even had a conversation with (sigh)
10) watched some of my best friends graduate (tear)
11) had sushi for the first time, and fell in love with calamari
12) went out of the country for the first time (Bermuda)
13) sort of kind of maybe have found a career path I want to follow
14) realized that blowing off a guy who asks you on a date is mean (but hey, I’m bad in that department, ok?) (don’t worry, it wasn’t the guy I have eyes for)
15) have passionately fallen in love with Jodie Picoult novels
16) have decided to get a moped when I’m older
17) was elected president for my National Honor Society
18) was elected vice president of my class (second year running)
19) was elected tri-captain of my lacrosse team
20) went on a cruise ship for the first time

there is a ton that I’ve left out that I’ll think of and pinch myself for not putting in here, but it’s been a long, fun, tiring day, and I have to babysit early tomorrow!

Oh, for the birthday I received: a iPod touch! a new camera! a black and white framed photograph of the paris, a new dress, some jodie picoult books, and some new flip flops!

Sincerely,
Shea
